We are a society that both runs on and demands results. Why? If you don’t perform as promised .... you will get fired or left out, you will feel like a loser, or you will just plain look silly.
In fact, we are usually in control of our own results. We can work harder, work smarter, acquire new skills, read “how to” books, get key help from friends or professionals, hire the right people, take out a bank loan, get on the “shark tank” tv show, focus our mind and energy, or work our tails off to make sure everything necessary gets done.
But. Prayer and healing don’t work that way.
No lie. I am results driven with all I do. If you know me in real life, you know I’m compelled by love and I am intensely driven toward goals by faith. No, I’m not performing for God ... I know who I am. But. I do invest so much energy into all I do, I want to see things happen. I want to see fruit from the soil that was diligently tilled.
Seeing people hurt, literally hurts me. No joke. I can’t stand seeing people suffer. I feel their hurt.
But. Impatience gets in the way. Like frost on fields of wheat, impatience damages the growth of obedient outcome.
This is something God is working on in me. Nope. Not everyone I pray for gets healed right there and then. This frustrates me because I believe it’s already been done at the cross. I’ve seen so much crazy healing that it’s not even a question for me. I am always confident in my God, and I expect God to show up.
My obedience to God is up to me. But. The fruit of my obedience is up to God.
Look, let’s be real. I’m not the one doing the healing. I’m just a vessel. I can’t heal others any better than I already do!
Yet. There is no greater act of trust, than obediently pouring your heart into God and His people - and leaving the results up to the One who is supplying the power to heal.
Here is the point.
Your faith and acts of service need not be driven by results. There is nothing more pleasing to God than us moving in obedience, and trusting Him with those precious acts of love.
We get our joy from obedience, not from the results. Fixation on our results allows the enemy to chip away at the joy of faith and service.
Pray big. Be light. Be bold.
Heal the world with your heart no matter what.
But. Give the results to God.
